Venice is famous for fine Mediterranean cuisine and great selection of wines from Umbria and Veneto.

The restaurants, predominantly traditional Italian of international serve exquisite local specialties and sophisticated seafood dishes. The lack of non-smoking rooms, observed until recently, is not a problem now because of extensive legislative and informational campaigns. Florian’s, in Piazza San Marco, established since 1720, boasting the rich history of being the haunt of loyal Venetians during Austrian occupation, serves excellent snacks and specialty coffees. Hotel Cipriani hosts one of the best local bars, Harry’s Bar, since 1931. The restaurant is proud of having been Hemingway’s haunt during his stay in Venice. The best experience will be to sit awhile in the charming terrace, overlooking the lagoon, and taste the famous Bellini, invented there. The restaurant received Michelin one star.

Another one-star (Michelin) choice is La Caravella, inside the Hotel Saturnia, about five minutes on foot from Piazza San Marco. Between San Marco and Rialto Bridge is located excellent Trattoria Da Bruno, with mouth-watering dishes and reasonable prices. The menus at least in five languages facilitate the best dining choice for foreigners. For some time the restaurant has been included in the Michelin Red Guide.

Do Forni and Antico Pignolo are excellent bars towards the periphery of the city. Do Spade, Antico Dolo, Do Mori,renowned for superb bouquet of wines, Da Pinto are great places to visit, located near the Rialto Market. Da Fiore, since its recent opening, has already acquired wide popularity. Campo Santa Margherita is an artistic quarter, where actors, directors, architects and designers hang out in numerous bars and cafes with exquisite snacks and specialty coffees.

Centrale Restaurant Lounge is a contemporary, smartly designed spot with international cuisine and excellent ambient/chillout background music. Antico Martini, just a few steps from La Fenice theatre, opened in 1720 in former admiral Vittore Pisani’s house, successfully combines indigenous historic atmosphere and savory cuisine. Taverna San Lio offers finest and freshest local delicacies in truly Venetian ambience.
