Notwithstanding small population, about 273,000, the quality of Venice newspapers can compete with big cities.

The newspapers provide comprehensive and profound coverage of the news in the city and the province of Veneto, as well as world news. Il Gazzettino is the leading newspaper of Venice, founded in 1887 by Gian Piero Talamini, the paper today has nine editions in the Veneto area and is owned by a group of industrialists including Benetton and luxury shoemaker Rene' Fernando Caovilla.

Messaggero Veneto is a modern news magazine. Il Mattino di Padova is published in Padua and covers regional and national news.

La Tribuna di Treviso deals with economic and social life of nearby Treviso, the center of the north-east area, one of the most productive and richest in Italy. Corriere del Veneto, fashioned after Corriere delle Alpi, also is dedicated to the regional economic and municipal news, various innovations and government projects. La Nuova Venezia is almost exclusively dedicated to the city news and events.
