In Venice the foreigners are unlikely to experience serious health problems, thought the climate, generally enjoyable, can sometimes present unpleasant surprises. Pharmacists (farmacia) are qualified to give advice on minor ailments and to dispense prescriptions. There will always be a 24-hour one 'on turn'. Modern hi-tech Venice-Mestre Hospital was recently opened, presenting the newest medical technologies. Venice hosted major international seminar of cardiovascular diseases, Venice ARrhythmias 2007, accepting scientists from all over the world.
